With a compound or recurve bow, a child must have a certain amount of strength to draw and hold the string back. Better for Hunting…Īs for hunting, a great crossbow can give a child the additional arrow speed and power that they may lack with a traditional bow. You really must have an experienced user to show the child how to use it. You can rarely find an archery class or school that teaches crossbow use. As for the learning process, you are mainly on your own. You also must check your local regulations to see if hunting with a crossbow is allowed and how the schedule is different from a conventional bow. I suggest waxing the string every five shots on any crossbow because of the friction against the frame. Responsible MaintenanceĪ crossbow also has the additional burden of more string maintenance. It is easier to learn how to fire a crossbow than it is learning to fire a conventional bow, but more challenging than a firearm. If you hunt, you can sometimes smell the animal before firing because it is so close. You can watch the arrow fly through the air at the target. It gives you the ease of use that pulling a trigger always provides, but it gives a more primitive and personal experience than a firearm. The first question you must ask yourself and the child is… is a crossbow is the right weapon for them? A crossbow is a unique cross breed between a firearm and a conventional bow. ![]() It is harder to find a good selection of crossbows built for children. Crossbows are not nearly as mainstream as compound bows or recurve bows, so that makes the challenge a bit more difficult. In this guide we will be covering how to select the best youth crossbow for a child, pre-teen or teen. Not to be used for any other purpose other than entertainment. The rest of the settings in Cura do not really matter, as long as they work for your printer. You do not need to print supports for any of the files, because I tried to design them so supports wouldn't be necessary. If you have a bigger bed on your 3d printer, you shouldn't have to rotate anything. The striker might also need to be rotated in Cura to fit your print bed, if it is as small as mine. My print bed is small, so I had to print the parts separately, and rotate "Crossbow Body" in Cura to fit on my bed, as shown in the image above. I used Ultimaker Cura to slice this design for my printer. Then, use a slicer to prepare the model or individual models for your 3d printer. If your bed is too small to print both parts at the same time, then download the files "Crossbow Body" and "Crossbow Striker," and print them individually. If your printer has a large enough print bed, download the file marked "Full Crossbow." This file prints both parts at the same time. In the rest of this instructable, I will tell you how to print, assemble, and use this crossbow. ![]() You are eliminated if all 5 of your targets fall, and the last person who still has standing targets wins! I usually draw boundaries of how close your crossbow can get to your opponent's targets. ![]() ![]() You launch a marble, they launch a marble, and so on. Then, you take turns shooting at your opponent's targets. In the game, you have a crossbow, some marbles, and 5 targets (I used plastic army guys). You can just launch marbles around for fun, but you can also play a game with these, with as many players as you want. I made this toy crossbow to be a toy, and also part of a game. So, I started refining this design, and fixed a lot of problems and made this crossbow easier to use, easier to assemble, more powerful and more accurate. Recently, I have looked back at my old design, noticing it still had many issues, like the fact that you had to use hot glue to assemble it, the striker was very short, nothing held the marble in place, it wasn't very powerful, and so on. After I finished, the design just sat untouched. I started designing this crossbow in Tinkercad a while back, and it came out pretty well.
